Starlight, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish…
When you wish upon a star…
Wishin’ and hopin’, hopin’ and wishin’…
Could you complete the sentences above? At a very young age we learn about the word wish. “Close your eyes, make a wish and blow out the candles.”
BABM is honored to feature two shinning stars in this issue, Dr. Xhoana Gjelaj and Brandi Kamenar. Although as little girls they did their share of wishing, they learned that no amount of wishing was going to make their dreams come true. It was going to take passion, persistence, perseverance and good ol’ hard work.
It was going to take courage, an ability to trust their own ideas and the willingness to stand alone at times when everyone around them was giving up or giving in. In fact, growing up, building our lives and building our businesses means, “…alone will be something you’ll be quite a lot.”
Our parents read us wonderful stories and poems as children and most of them actually had valuable lessons. Unfortunately, sometimes we get caught up in the fairy tale and overlook the underlying lesson. Much like the misunderstood law of attraction, there are always those who think that good things and rewards come to us by simply putting the intention out there and meditating it for it to materialize. Or wishing with all our hearts for something and it will miraculously show up in our life.
Xhoana and Brandi may continue to wish from time to time. However, they both have learned that wishing is not what will deliver their goals and aspirations. As you read their stories and think about the stumbling blocks you’ve encountered in your life and/or business, ask yourself if you have allowed them to become excuses that you cling to and use to rationalize your lack of success?
There is a wonderful children’s book that should be required reading for entrepreneurs. It was one of the most cherished gifts my daughter received when she was born and either my husband or I would read it to her at least three times a week until she was able to read it herself.
If you are serious about your success then include this book in your business building library: Oh, the Places You’ll Go!, by Dr. Dr. Seuss
“…And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
